“Code Stitch Workshop” introduces a method for translating participants’ personal names into binary codes using Taiwanese Holo (河洛語) phonetic romanization. These binary sequences are then embedded onto fabric using the hitomezashi (一目刺し) technique of Japanese sashiko embroidery, functioning as a form of steganography.

Through this process of cultural transcoding—visualizing language through stitch—the workshop generates an intercultural storage interface interwoven with digital language, local language, and material language. Participants will produce StitchCode works that encode their own names.

These data-textiles embody a cultural technique in which meaning, material, and embodied experience are mutually encoded. They emerge through human-material interaction and form part of a sustainable cultural network where information becomes indexable, traceable, and alive within fabric.
