// The “Temperature Weaving Project” draws from the spirit of Craftivism and the original Tempestry Project, using textiles as a medium of data materialization to translate climate temperature into tangible form. Through the intertwining of climatic terminology and the ecological presence of the frost-haired bat, the work explores an ecology of writing that links climate, the personal, and the species, creating a form of non-confrontational public dialogue.
// 《織溫計畫》取徑於「工藝行動主義」(Craftivism)與「溫度掛毯計畫」(The Tempestry Project ),以織物作為回應氣候溫度的數據物質化載體,並透過氣候術語與霜毛蝙蝠的生態關鍵字連結,進行「氣候—個人—物種」的生態書寫,創造非對抗性的公共對話。
// What do we share with species that must migrate due to changes in environmental temperature?
The atmosphere emerges from the shared material and energetic exchanges of all beings on Earth. Climate, therefore, is not merely an environmental phenomenon, but a network of social, technical, and affective relations. The Temperature Weaving Project translates this concept into a method of practice. Participants begin from words they “share” with the frost-haired bat, developing narratives of temperature, migration, and ecological adaptation. By translating climate data into textile and story, they weave relational connections between data and matter—between what is measured and what is felt.
// 我們和因為環境溫度改變而必須遷徙的物種,共享了什麼?

This project will be implemented in three aspects:
# Data Materialization
Climate information is transformed into fibers and threads that can be touched and felt. In this process, textile becomes a form of data materialization—data embodied through the act of weaving, turning into a living archive. Through manual labor, the woven fabric stores not only records of climate change but also traces of human care and ecological engagement. It proposes an alternative mode of data preservation, rendering the textile an organic “screen”: a medium for both documentation and soft resistance.
# Craftivism
Handcraft is understood as a form of non-violent response—an embodied act that opens a space for dialogue through labor and creation. This practice continues a lineage of resistant craft traditions: from Gandhi’s spinning movement, to the Chilean Arpillera patchworks, to the AIDS Memorial Quilt. Within this lineage, the act of making itself becomes a language of civic participation and collective connection, where touch and repetition replace slogans and confrontation.
# Critical Data: Shared
The frost-haired bat of Liuran serves as a symbolic guide, embodying the ecological ethics of migration, thermal adaptation, and coexistence. Here, the textile is not merely a visual interface for climate data but a vessel for shared perception and environmental memory, emphasizing that temperature and climate data mirror the emergent material energies of multi-species life.
When data is materialized into tapestry, the gesture of weaving becomes the first movement of climate action. Each woven surface stores cross-species narratives and data interrelations—an activist medium composed through tactility and relation, a climate writing measured not in numbers, but in touch.
